Temblors, Terremotos, Noticias

I don't know what everyone will be hearing on the news but we just had another earthquake here, followed by aftershocks of course. I am safe and sound and there are no problems in my apartment! The earthquake today in Santiago actually happened during the ceremony to change presidents (like our inauguration) and they had to pause, but then they were able to complete the events. My computer kind of stopped working yesterday and for this reason this will be a brief post (thank my new apartmentmate Jen for computer use) but I also found out on Tuesday that our classes for UChile have been delayed another week on top of the initial week postponement due to damage in various campus buildings. That means I don't start school until March 22nd and may do some traveling next week.

Due to requests for food descriptions, I will leave you with one satisfying food story. Here in Chile, "completos" are very popular and sold everywhere for $1-2 (US). They basically consist of a large hot dog with a mountain of avocado, mayonnaise and anything else they decide to throw on top. Because I am maintaining my vegetarianism here in Chile, I had not tasted a completo until this past week when I discovered a tiny vegetarian cafe about 5 blocks away from my new apartment. I was walking home on Monday, tired and a little cranky, when I discovered the cafe was open and serving- at the moment- only completos vegetarianos! They had a soy version (not-dog for fellow co-opers) inside a whole wheat bun with avocado and mayonnaise. I wasn't expecting to eat at the time, but seized my opportunity to try this famous dish and felt much better once I devoured it. After enjoying my completo with some fresh peach juice, I chatted a bit with the people who worked in the cafe. I then made my way home, satisfecha.

Now I'm off to try to get my computer fixed, google "completo chile" if you're curious. Chao!
